Markdown Table Generator
Build Markdown tables visually. Set columns, rows, alignment, and paste CSV or TSV. Copy the formatted Markdown with one click.
A visual builder for Markdown tables. Typing pipes and dashes by hand is painful; this tool gives you a spreadsheet-style grid, lets you set alignment per column, and outputs clean Markdown you can paste into GitHub, Notion, Obsidian, or a prompt for ChatGPT or Claude. It is aimed at anyone who has ever counted dashes to line up columns: writers, developers, analysts, and anyone who copied a table out of a Google Doc and needs to turn it into readable Markdown quickly.
Typical case: a data analyst puts together a weekly KPI summary and wants to drop a six-column table of metrics into a GitHub pull request description. Copy the range out of Google Sheets, hit Import CSV/TSV here, pick Tab, set the numeric columns to right-alignment, click Copy Markdown, paste. The PR description now has a table GitHub will render correctly, with the numbers actually lined up. Paste tab-separated data straight from Excel or Sheets using the Import button. For background on moving spreadsheet data into Markdown, see our Excel to Markdown guide, and use the Excel to Markdown converter when you need to convert an entire workbook.

Paste CSV or TSV directly from Excel, Google Sheets, or a .csv file by clicking "Import CSV/TSV" and choosing the delimiter.
- 5
When the table looks right, click "Copy Markdown" and paste into your editor, GitHub issue, Notion page, or ChatGPT prompt.
Frequently asked questions
Do Markdown tables work everywhere?+
Tables are part of GitHub-Flavored Markdown (GFM) rather than CommonMark. They render correctly on GitHub, GitLab, Obsidian, Notion, Dev.to, Discord, ChatGPT, Claude, and most static site generators. Plain CommonMark-only renderers will show the raw pipes.
Can I import from Excel or Google Sheets?+
Yes. Select the cells in Excel or Sheets, copy them, click "Import CSV/TSV" here, paste into the box, pick "Tab (TSV)" (which is what Excel copies), and click Import. The first row becomes the header.
How do I control column alignment?+
Use the L / C / R buttons below each column header. The generator writes the correct separator syntax (:---, :---:, ---:) into the Markdown for you.
Can cells contain Markdown like bold or links?+
Yes. The cell content is passed through as-is, so you can include **bold**, *italic*, `code`, and [links](https://example.com). Just avoid raw pipe characters (|); escape them as \| if you need them inside a cell.
Is anything sent to a server?+
No. The whole tool runs in your browser. Nothing you type, paste, or import is uploaded.
What if I need a table from a full spreadsheet file?+
For .xlsx or .csv files with lots of sheets and formulas, use the Excel to Markdown converter linked below. It handles whole workbooks, not just single tables.
