Markdown to HTML Converter

Convert Markdown into clean HTML in your browser. Side-by-side preview and raw HTML output. GFM support for tables and task lists.

A free Markdown to HTML converter that works entirely in your browser. Paste Markdown on the left and you get both a rendered preview and the raw HTML source on the right. It is useful when you want to post a Markdown draft into a CMS that only accepts HTML, send a nicely formatted email, or just peek at what the HTML looks like before you ship. Non-technical users get a clean preview; developers get the source without reaching for a build tool.

A common case: a marketer writes a release-announcement email in Markdown because that is what their notes tool uses, then needs clean HTML to paste into Mailchimp or HubSpot's email composer. Paste on the left, click Copy HTML on the right, paste into the email template. No missing paragraph tags, no stray angle brackets. The GFM toggle controls whether GitHub-Flavored features (tables, task lists, strikethrough) are applied. For the reverse direction (pulling Markdown out of existing HTML), read our guide on HTML to Markdown for web scraping, or use the HTML to Markdown converter for whole files and URLs.

Why convert Markdown to HTML?

Markdown is great for writing, but the web speaks HTML. Use the output for email newsletters, static sites that need raw HTML, CMS fields that accept HTML but not Markdown, or to inspect how your document structures itself before shipping. Toggle GFM off if your target renderer only supports CommonMark.

How to use this tool

  1. 1

Paste your Markdown into the left pane, or click "Load example" to see how it works.

  2. 2

The right pane shows the rendered preview by default. Switch to the HTML tab to see the raw HTML source.

  3. 3

Toggle GFM if your target renderer does not support GitHub-Flavored Markdown (tables, task lists, strikethrough).

  4. 4

Click "Copy HTML" to put the raw HTML on your clipboard. Paste it into your email tool, CMS, or HTML file.

Frequently asked questions

Is this different from the built-in Markdown editor?+

Yes. The regular editor only shows you a rendered preview. This tool also exposes the raw HTML so you can paste it into places that need HTML, like email tools, static-site source files, or CMS fields.

What is GFM and why would I turn it off?+

GitHub-Flavored Markdown adds tables, task lists, strikethrough, and autolinks on top of CommonMark. Most modern renderers support it, but a few (plain email clients, old CMS engines) only accept CommonMark. Turn GFM off if your target is one of those.

Does the output include a full HTML document?+

No. It gives you the body content only: tags like <h1>, <p>, <ul>, <table>. Wrap it in your own <html><body>...</body></html> if you need a standalone file.

Is my Markdown sent anywhere?+

No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser; nothing is uploaded. You can safely use it for drafts or confidential content.

Will this work for a big document?+

Yes, within reason. For very large documents (tens of thousands of lines) the textarea will slow down regardless of the converter. For large file conversions like PDFs or DOCX, use the full converter linked below.

What if I need to go the other way, HTML to Markdown?+

Use the HTML to Markdown converter for that. It handles full web pages, including messy HTML from scraped content.
